Stan Waterhouse
President and CEO

Mr. Stan Waterhouse serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation, a non-profit corporation that operates upscale continuing care retirement communities in Dallas, Houston, Barton Creek, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, Texas, and for the community located in Carmel, Indiana which opened in 2013.

Mr. Waterhouse served as Vice Chairman of the Board prior to his appointment as President and CEO. He has extensive management experience in the housing and hospitality industries. Most recently, Waterhouse served as Chief Operating Officer for the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP), where he led 500 employees and managed a $100 million annual budget in the pursuit of positioning the organization as the industry’s leader in customer service and innovative development.

His previous experience includes serving as Vice President for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company spearheading the company’s expansion to include resorts, private residence clubs, lifestyle communities and golf assets throughout Asia, the U.S. and the Caribbean. He also served as Regional Vice President for Club Corporation of America, the world’s largest private club operator, rising to Regional Vice President. He was responsible for 25 properties, producing $65 million annually and stretching throughout the eastern U.S. and Canada.

Mr. Waterhouse holds an MBA from Wake Forest University and is a member of the Urban Land Institute, American Hotel and Lodging Association, and National Golf Course Owners Association.

Joe Anderson
Chairman of the Board

Joe Anderson has served as the Chairman of the Board of SQLC and the SQLC Foundation since 2013. He has spent the past thirty years in the senior housing and health care business. Mr. Anderson is currently Senior Vice President of Business Development for Lifespace Communities. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Lifespace is one of the largest owners of lifecare communities in the United States.

For twenty-years prior to joining Lifespace Mr. Anderson was employed by Cornerstone Affiliates. During this period he served Cornerstone as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for American Baptist Homes of the West [ABHOW]; President and founder of Seniority, Inc., management consulting firm; President of the ABHOW Foundation; and as President of Cornerstone Affiliates International, the company’s management consulting business in the Peoples Republic of China.

Mr. Anderson is the former owner of Anderson Fischel Thompson Advertising Agency, Dallas, TX, one of the first marketing companies to specialize in the marketing of lifecare and continuing care retirement communities. He is a sought after speaker at state, national and international associations in senior housing. Mr. Anderson lives in Danville, CA.

Scott T. Collier
Vice Chairman

Scott Collier is currently a managing director at Jones Lang LaSalle, an international corporate real estate advisory firm. He has more than 30 years of experience in representing tenants negotiating office leases. He has received numerous accolades during his career, including Office Broker of the Year for Dallas-Fort Worth by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and Most Valuable Producer for The Staubach Company.

Mr. Collier serves as a board and executive committee member for the Dallas Summer Musicals and CitySquare, a poverty-fighting organization serving the community of Dallas.  Mr. Collier holds degrees from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and University of Oklahoma (MBA) and served as an artillery officer for six years.

Bernard Francis
Board of Directors

Bernie is Chief Executive Officer of Business Control Systems, L.P., and currently serves Governor Perry as a Regent of the Texas State University System. In addition, he serves on the board of directors of Edgemere in Dallas; Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin; Mirador in Corpus Christi and The Stayton at Museum Way in Fort Worth.

Dr. Jan van Sant
Director

Dr. van Sant is a 34-year oil industry veteran with particular experience in the areas of exploration and production research and technology. He began his career with Jersey Production Research Company, an Exxon Corporation predecessor in 1962. In 1964, he organized and lead Exxon’s technical services group in Bordeaux, France, which supported all Exxon exploration groups responsible for the North Sea, Europe and Africa. He transferred to Exxon Production Research Company in 1966, serving in positions of increasing managerial responsibility, including coordinating all technical training for explorationists, and becoming manager of the Exploration Research Division. He joined Pennzoil in 1980 and retired as Senior Vice President Technology & Systems in 1996. Dr. van Sant was responsible for geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, drilling and technical computing in support of oil and gas operating units.

After retiring, Dr. van Sant was the Executive Director of the American Geological Institute Foundation which raised more than $20 million for certain AGI-sponsored educational and other national programs. The AGI is a federation of 52 Earth Science societies in the United States with a combined membership of more than 250,000 geoscientists. He is now Associate Director of the Foundation. Dr. van Sant also served as Assistant to the Vice President for Research at the University of Houston, and was a member of advisory committees at various times including the University of South Carolina, University of Utah, University of Kansas, and Rice University.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in geology from the University of Kansas. Additionally, he graduated from the Harvard University School of Business in Management of Industrial Research. He served in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant for Special assignments in Korea, Alaska, and elsewhere.

Dr. David Gobble
Board of Directors

Dr. David Gobble has worked in the health promotion, wellness and aging field for over 40 years as an educator, administrator, direct service provider, consultant and public speaker for a wide range of agencies and organizations. He is Director of the Masterpiece Living Academy and Professor and Director Emeritus for the Fisher Institute for Wellness and Gerontology at Ball State University, where he coordinated the nationally recognized master’s degree in Wellness Management.

Susan Carter
Board of Directors

Susan Carter served most recently as CEO of the Arthritis Foundation’s South Central Region, addressing the vital needs of people suffering from the nation’s leading cause of disability in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.  She oversees the operations, fundraising, and mission programs to help more than 5.5 million people, including 30,000 children, diagnosed with arthritis in the region.

Prior to joining the Arthritis Foundation, Susan served as a founding employee of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.  Susan built the Komen communications and brand marketing department from one person to an award-winning team of media relations, creative and digital communication experts, and went on to hold numerous leadership positions throughout her tenure. 

Susan is credited with helping develop the blueprint for cause-related marketing as a strategy to catapult a nonprofit brand and its mission, leading to corporate citizenship as we know it today.  A graduate of Texas Christian University, she has been called upon to share her knowledge and expertise with numerous businesses and non-profit organizations throughout her career.
