SQLC is serving one of the fastest growing housing segments in the United States--retirement communities for upscale residents. This growth trend should continue with the aging of the baby boomers, many of whom are now 55 years of age or older. Many seniors have substantial investment portfolios and little overall debt, providing them with a substantial source of wealth that can be transformed to a new living environment.

The growth rate of the elderly population is estimated to increase markedly over the next 10 years as baby boomers age. Consequently, the demand for senior housing is expected to increase. While there have been some well-publicized setbacks in certain niches of the senior living sector, the continuing care retirement community has proven to be a successful senior housing and services delivery model that has experienced substantial growth over the past 30 years.

Due to the large scale of these projects, there are significant barriers to entry from market to market; consequently, the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) model has not generally been overbuilt, and existing projects tend to enjoy strong occupancy rates. Demographic trends indicate that demand for the CCRC model should continue to grow.
