Besides serving our own resident community, SQLC feels a deep sense of obligation to the local communities in which we operate. Even though we are tax exempt as a not-for-profit, SQLC communities still make payments to the local taxing authority approximately equal to local taxation rates. In addition, the upscale nature of our communities increases area real estate values.
However, the benefit to local communities extends well beyond the financial. In many cases, our communities become the best of breed anchor in the community for our sector. As such, our properties help to retain aging leaders and their intellectual capital in the community while also attracting more such talent.
In addition--as proponents for successful aging--our properties each conduct proactive outreaches to their surrounding communities; bringing in authors, offering seminars, informing local social workers, and providing counsel to families on aging members.
Finally, each of our communities is actively engaged on a daily basis with area charitable organizations. SQLC communities provide local philanthropic support through donations, services, and volunteerism. To view some of the charitable activities of our communities and our residents, please visit Our News or the newsrooms of the individual communities.
